Internal project workshops

During the MoDeRn-project, nine internal workshops will be held to review the work performed, discuss and progress made and to plan further activities of the project. Besides, internal discussions, both plenary and smaller break-out groups, are used as input for several work packages. A short description of a workshop is fold out by activating the +-sign at the left-hand side of the concerned project workshop.

MoDeRn 1st workshop

23 - 24 June 2009

Paris

The first internal workshop of the MoDeRn Project was held on 23-24 June 2009, in Le Plessis-Robinson (France) and was hosted by Andra. The objective of the workshop was to kick-off the overall project, with a particular attention on activities under MoDeRn Work Packages 1 and 2.

MoDeRn 2nd workshop

18 - 19 November 2009

Madrid

The second internal workshop of the MoDeRn Project was held on 18-19 November 2009 in Madrid, (Spain) and was hosted by Aitemin. The objectives of the workshop were to provide an update on progress with the work packages introduced during the kick-off MoDeRn workshop and to introduce and discuss the scope of planned activities under WP3 and WP4.

MoDeRn 3rd workshop

9 - 11 June 2010

Bure, France

The third internal workshop of the MoDeRn Project was held on 10-11 June 2010, at the Andra Espace Technologique, Centre Meuse/Haute-Marne and in Chaumont (France) and was hosted by Andra. The objectives of the workshop were to provide an update of progress under all WP since the Madrid MoDeRn Workshop held on 18-19 November 2009 and to plan further activities, to discuss initial feedback following the MoDeRn Monitoring Technologies Workshop held on 7-8 June 2010 at the Université de Technologie de Troyes (UTT), France (MoDeRn, 2010).

  

This workshop was also the occasion to welcome SKB to the MoDeRn Partnership.

MoDeRn 4th workshop

30 November - 1 December 2010

Peine, Germany

The fourth internal workshop of the MoDeRn Project was held on 30 November to 1 December 2010 in Peine, (Germany) and was hosted by DBE TEC. The objectives of the workshop were to provide an update of progress under Work Package (WP) 1, WP2, WP4 and WP5 since the Bure MoDeRn Workshop held on 10-11 June 2010, and to plan further activities. A particular attention was focused on WP4, to develop the procedures under Task 4.2 to identify processes and parameters to be monitored, and to screen parameters, through break-out group discussions; and on WP1 to discuss how monitoring may contribute to confidence building and what role lay stakeholders may have in different kinds of monitoring, through break‑out group discussions, as input to Task 1.3.

MoDeRn 5th workshop

7 - 9 June 2011

Prague

The Fifth internal workshop of the MoDeRn project was held on 7-9 of June 2011 in Prague (Czech Republic) and was hosted by RAWRA. The objectives of the workshop were to provide an update on progress within work packages 1 to 5 and plan for future action. Predominant among the issues raised were the current developments and understanding of the MoDeRn monitoring workflow and initial project considerations of post-closure monitoring. This workshop was also the opportunity to evaluate feedback from the projects' Experts stakeholder workshop (May 2011, Oxford) and to address main conclusions within future project work.  The workshop also provided the opportunity to visit Richards repository.

MoDeRn 6th workshop

15 - 17 November 2011

Amsterdam

The Sixth internal workshop of the MoDeRn project was held on 15-17 of November 2011 in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and was hosted by NRG. This workshop included discussions on current work in all work packages. In particular, it provided the opportunity to discuss feedback from the project's internal “Deliverables" workshop (October 2011, Antwerpen), including the initial proposal for an outline of the EC published "monitoring reference framework" report. Further workshop discussions emphasized consistent scheduling and content planning to ensure the project deliverables provide a comprehensive basis for current understanding on repository monitoring, as well as a consistent basis for this end of project report. The workshop also provided the opportunity to visit the Dutch long-term interim storage Covra facilities.

MoDeRn 7th workshop

30 - 31 May 2012

Turku, Finland

The Seventh internal workshop of the MoDeRn project was held on 30-31 of May 2012 in Turku (Finland) and was hosted by Posiva. This workshop focused on content and schedule to finalize all project deliverables. In particular, specific further contribution requests for the State-of-Art report were agreed, the detailed outline and expected content of the Monitoring Reference Framework Report was confirmed, progress and work plan for the Case Studies was provided and planning for the RTD and demonstrator reports was confirmed. It also provided the opportunity to provide first feedback from stakeholder engagement activities and to inform on progress of the projects’ International Conference preparation. The workshop also provided the opportunity to visit the Finnish URL and repository construction at Olkiluoto, prior and ongoing in-situ experiments and the associated surface environmental monitoring.

MoDeRn 8th workshop

11 - 12 December 2012

Mont Terri, Switzerland

The 8th internal workshop of the MoDeRn project was held on 11-12 of December 2012 in Mont Terri (Switzerland) and was hosted by Nagra. This workshop focused on last steps to finalize remaining project deliverables, before the International Conference and workshop on Monitoring in Geological Disposal of Radioactive waste, in March 2013 (Luxembourg). The workshop also provided the opportunity to visit the Mont Terri and the Grimsel sites where in-situ partners experiments have been realised during the project.

The final internal workshop of the MoDeRn project was held on 21-22 of May 2013 in London and was hosted by NDA.
